The Problem:

In thermal oil production, especially in high-volume operations exceeding 200,000 bbl./day, the reliability of fuel gas injection systems is crucial. One thermal oil producer was relying on threaded rotameters to confirm gas flow at the wellhead, but encountered frequent clogging due to contaminated sour gas (H₂S). In addition to the plugging issues, the use of sour gas requires strict compliance with material standards for corrosion resistance.
